According to a poll just released only Philadelphia and Los Angeles have more aggressive drivers than drivers in Sacramento. This is a shocking poll and might help to explain why Sacramento also has the second highest number of auto body repair shops per capita in the nation. The poll found drivers locally are 22% more aggressive than the average driver nationwide. Even though the 22% more aggressive number is tied with Philadelphia and Los Angeles the difference comes down to the amount of time each driver in a given city spends behind the wheel during a given year. Being stuck behind the wheel has been shown to increase distracted driving. In 2019, distracted driving was a reported factor in 8.5% of fatal motor vehicle crashes. Distraction was a factor in 9 percent of fatal crashes reported in 2017. Cellphone use was a factor in 14 percent of the 2,935 fatal distraction-affected crashes but in only 1.2 percent of the total 34,247 fatal crashes reported in 2017.
In Sacramento and Elk Grove aggressive driving and distracted driving are two of the prevalent factors in crashes and subsequent injuries.
