Fisher-Price is recalling one of its models of baby soothers after the deaths of four infants. In a joint statement with the Consumer Products Safety Commission Fisher-Price said it’s recalling their 4-in-1 Rock’n Glide Soothers which are designed to mimic the motion of a baby being rocked in someone’s arms. Fisher-Price is a division of Mattel Inc and they are also recalling a similar product, the 2-in-1 Soothe’n Play Glider.
The fatalities associated with the 4-in-1 Rock’n Glide Soothers happened between April 2019 and February 2020. The age of the four children ranged from 11 weeks to 2 months of age. The deaths happened after the infant was placed in the device on their back unrestrained and later found on their stomachs. The 2-in-1 Soothe’n Play Glider was recalled for precautionary reasons and there were no deaths reported from the use of this device.
Fisher-Price General Manager Chuck Scothon said the company is committed to educating parents and caregivers on the safe use of its products “including the importance of following all warnings and instructions.”
