Essential Items Every Car Emergency Kit Should Have

After the rain along with the tragic loss of life we’ve endured in our valley, we wanted to brush up on items you should have in your car in case of an emergency or car crash accident. There are thousands of car crashes every day in America according to the National Highway Transit Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is a fact that very few drivers are equipped to handle an actual type of emergency. Most drivers lack a complete emergency kit in their vehicle. This mistake can be the difference between suffering a minor injury and a catastrophic injury.

Most drivers are diligent about keeping their insurance and registration cards on hand. These documents however aren’t useful in the event of a car crash. Keeping a well-stocked bag designated for car accident emergencies in your trunk or back seat have the potential to save a life. The following items are the basic items every car should have and if you wonder if you should add to this list the reality is you should.

A Basic First Aid Kit is the place to start. Minor car accidents often result in injuries. If uninjured, other drivers may be injured and a bandage or on demand ice bag will make all the difference in the world.

A Disposable Camera is invaluable for documentation. Place this near the top of your “car crash kit.” Many people want to rely on their mobile device. Phones take excellent pictures, but a car crash can cause you to lose track of, or even damage your cell phone. Additionally, your phone’s battery may be out of power and disposable cameras never lose their charge.

A Flashlight with good batteries is another must have item. Many people don’t know that most serious crashes and auto fatalities occur at night, many drivers don’t keep a flashlight in their vehicle. A flashlight can help you be visible to oncoming traffic and to the police or paramedics when they arrive. A flashlight, reflectors, flairs, and glow sticks will help prevent further injury. Lithium-Ion batteries last longer and are far more reliable than other types of batteries.

A serious auto accident can result in fire so having a Fire Extinguisher may help prevent injuries and additional property damage by allowing you to contain a fire before it spreads. While many people think of car accident injuries in terms of blunt-force trauma and our legal team has successfully represented clients with serious burn injuries from a car crash.

Highlighting your Emergency Contact Information in your mobile device can be critically important. Keep in mind that you may not be conscious after an accident. If you have family that needs notification if you become injured, have their info in your vehicle or wallet. Some people also use the term ICE with a loved one’s phone contact information and this is something many paramedics and law enforcement may look for to locate them faster.

Never in my life did I think I would recommend an attorney. Somehow God sent this angel of an attorney to assist me in my personal injury lawsuit. I was told by lawyers in Bakersfield that my lawsuit was frivolous because there was money in it.
