It seems like 2020 hasn’t even arrived and recalls are already starting to happen! The brand new Subaru Outlook and Legacy have been recalled due to a defective brake pedal. The bolt that attaches the pedal to the vehicle is not tight on some models or the company forgot to even install the bolt. The National highway Traffic Safety Administration is involved in this recall and it affects over 3,000 cars in total.
While Subaru caught the problem and is repairing the issue at no cost it begs the question how a component within the braking system was either forgotten altogether or not tightened per their own internal manufacturer specifications. This is a serious safety issue that must be addressed as it puts the driver of the vehicle and the people around that vehicle in jeopardy due to the potential failure to stop.
Brake issues due to neglect in the manufacturing or repair process are hardly rare and this is one of the aspects of any crash we are keenly aware of. At fault drivers routinely say their brakes failed and if you are driving one of these Subaru’s they may be correct! Millions of cars have been recalled for braking related issues and a simple internet search under manufacturer brake recalls reveals how prevalent an issue this is.
