Our Office has worked with the Elk Grove Food Bank Services for several years and our Senior Partner Glenn Guenard is one of the Food Bank Executive Directors. We were recently one of the sponsors of the annual “Run 4 The Hungry” and we were moved when we learned about a particular participant.
Alice McCargo (pictured far left) participated in this years race and completed the entire 5k while many others were still at home in bed! Despite being 80 years old she was able to get out of bed, have the training and stamina required and not only complete the 5k but she also won first place in her division! We cannot remember the last time we won first place in our division in any sport at all!
Her daughter Joanne said that despite every other potential obstacle she not only won her division but she won with enthusiasm and a big smile on her face. Those of us in our office think that a lot of the reason she had the smile on her face that day is because she smiles most days and that is infectious. The world needs more smiles and Alice has plenty to go around. When we see stories like the one from Alice it reminds us why we sponsor events like this and what Elk Grove Food Bank Services does for the community and those that truly need help with one of life’s basic needs.
We want to thank Joanne for sharing her Mom’s story with us so we can share it with you. It reminds us that age is a number and you can do most anything you set your mind to do. Alice showed us all! See you in 2016 Alice!
