Best Buy is recalling over 750,000 air fryers and air fryer ovens sold in the United States and Canada. Best Buy has received over 100 reports detailing how the products caught fire, burned or melted. These reports include at least one reported injury. CBS News reported that Best Buy has complaints from 68 U.S. residents and 36 Canadian residents. The complaints surround Insignia air fryers and ovens overheating. In one case, the product caused an injury to a child.
The complaints include several different models, all made by Insignia. The injuries include one child who suffered leg injuries and seven involving property damage the retailer of record disclosed to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Consumers are asked to immediately stop using air fryers and air fryer ovens subject to recall. The consumers should return them to Best Buy in exchange for a refund in the form of store credit. Customer’s will get a $50 store credit or the amount on the purchase receipt if that is higher. No receipt is needed to get the $50 credit. The recall involves the Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryers and Insignia Air Fryer Ovens.
The brand name Insignia is located on the top or front of each unit, and a rating label can be found on the underside that identifies the brand and model number. The recalled products were manufactured in China and imported by Minnesota-based Best Buy. They were sold at Best Buy stores and online from November 2018 through February 2022 for between $30 and $150.
Anyone concerned they may have one of these appliances in their kitchen should check CPSC’s website or Recalls.gov to learn if the product you have at home is subject to a safety recall. Consumers can also protect themselves by registering new products at the time of purchase which allows manufacturers to directly contact you if the product is affected by a recall in the future.
