I had a past client call me this morning with an interesting story. He was walking through a parking lot and witnessed an accident. The cause in his opinion was cell phone use and driver inattention. Here is his story…
“I got out of my car and noticed the driver a couple of cars down from me start to back out and was out about 2 feet when she waited for another car to drive by. Instead of just driving by the driver ran into the waiting driver causing damage to both cars. The driver of the moving car got out and accused the waiting driver of backing into her due to inattention. My story as an eye witness was quite different.
What I saw and what I told both drivers is that the driver of the moving car was texting and not paying attention to anything other then what she was texting. This put pedestrians at risk, the other driver at risk and the children she had in her car at risk. While she was willing to argue the point I saw what I saw and I didn’t know either driver. This was 100% driver inattention to anything other than her phone. I left my contact information with BOTH drivers and expect to give statements to both insurance companies. This will be my story.
Please remind people that driving anywhere is an important activity and it deserves their undivided attention. In parking lots there is the added factor of pedestrians and some of those pedestrians are children who are notorious for not paying attention and darting into traffic.”
We could not have said it better ourselves. Our office is seeing more and more injuries arise from the use of cell phones along with inattention to driving.
