Over the recent July 4th weekend the California Highway Patrol statewide arrested 700 suspected intoxicated drivers on California roadways. Over the same weekend 54 people died from injuries sustained in automobile accidents and at least 25% of those killed were not wearing a seatbelt.
As our state slowly starts to reopen and people return to driving it’s worth remembering that driving is a skill. The number of drunk drivers and fatalities suggests a lot of drivers have become rusty. According to the CHP many drivers have returned to bad habits and these habits are getting them arrested and causing others to die. Our next question is how many of these same drivers have returned to distracted driving since so many people turned to electronic communication during the state imposed lockdown?
As you drive please keep in mind that statistics show many drivers have logged only a handful of miles since March of this year when the lockdowns began statewide. When you stop doing something on a regular basis your skills will diminish. Between diminished skills, distracted driving and the occasional intoxicated driver there is much to be aware of when you’re behind the wheel. Let us know if we can help you.
