Jacqueline Sanchez, age 14 was killed when her older sister, age 18 crashed while driving outside of Las Banos. According to reports the older sister Obdulia was driving while under the influence and live streaming on social media when the crash happened. Jacqueline was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle. Obdulia was arrested at the scene and remains in Merced County jail on suspicion of drunken driving and manslaughter.
The parents of the girls told a local TV station they have not seen the video but have talked to the surviving daughter. The father is quoted as saying “I think she knows what has happened and she knows she has done something wrong.” Obdulia was apparently live streaming on Instagram in the moments leading up to the crash. The video kept going throughout the crash and afterward. It shows the driver wearing a seatbelt, rapping to the music and at times it appears she has no hands on the wheel.
At the moment of impact the camera points briefly to the 2 girls in the back seat and then someone screams. After the scream the footage turns red and blurry and becomes very noisy. When Sanchez appears back in the frame she shows her younger sister lying in a field with a large wound to her head. The words “My sister is (expletive) dying. I (expletive) love my sister to death… This is the last thing I wanted to happen to us, but it just did. Jacqueline please wake up. I (expletive) just killed my sister, OK? I know I’m going to jail for life.”
The CHP is aware of the video evidence and they are investigating the validity of the recording. The video went viral after Stockton resident Mary Hernandez saw the video and reposted it. Her reason for posting the video is so people can see what happens when drivers do careless or wreckless things.
He reason for posting the video is people need to know these things can happen. If you or your children are aware of anyone who is live streaming while driving please tell someone who might have some influence and be able to stop it. It is incredibly dangerous and even deadly for them and for the rest of us as well.
