The death of these 2 teens never should have happened. One minute they were innocently riding their bikes and noticed a dog in the canal fighting to keep from drowning. These boys did what any parent would hope and they stopped to help. They touched a foot bridge that spans the canal that was electrified and that lead to the electrocution of both boys.
Jacob Schneider and Jacob Hourmouzus jumped into the canal to save the dog and then reached up to grab onto to the bridge to pull themselves out of the canal according to the Solano County Sheriffs spokesperson. “When doing so the witnesses state the two teenage boys appeared to have been electrocuted and unable to release their grip from the metal bridge.”
The boys parents have filed a wrongful death suit against Solano County Irrigation District. The parents “Intend to use such compensation strictly for charitable purposes and for the direct benefit of Solano County residents in need to make certain that similar incidents are averted.” Both families are also seeking compensation for funeral and burial expenses.
The Solano County Irrigation District held a closed door meeting after the deaths to discuss significant exposure to litigation anticipated as a result of the deaths. They also referenced the claim and wrongful death complaints that state the canal and bridge are “routinely frequented by members of the public seeking to hike and otherwise take advantage of the rural setting.”
