The C.H.P. reported some extremely sad news Sunday night from Northbound 99. A Sacramento woman was killed after she got out of her car after a crash and was struck by another car.
The initial crash happened at about 10:30 p. m. and involved three vehicles. The resulting crash would have been described by the CHP as a “non-injury crash” until the unthinkable happened. A Toyota Prius, which was one of the vehicles involved, had major front-end damage and continued southbound on 99 for about half a mile after the collision until the Prius became disabled in the center median. The 20 year old woman who was the driver of the Prius then got out of the car, climbed over the median and she was struck by a Honda Civic driving Northbound.
After a crash the safest thing to do is stay in your vehicle until you are sure it is safe to exit or simply wait until medical or law enforcement personnel arrive. Approaching drivers are often distracted by damaged vehicles from the collision or the activity on the side of the road and may not notice that you are out of your vehicle.
