A Rocklin man was charged this week with 2 counts of Vehicular Homicide that lead to the deaths of Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Griess and motorist Jaime Manuel on highway 80. The crash In question happened on August 9, 2018 on Westbound Interstate 80.
CHP investigators found evidence the Rocklin man was using his phone when the incident occurred. The investigators also determined the man arrested was speeding. The Rocklin man is being held in the Solano County Jail and will be arraigned in a few days.
Many hours were invested in this investigation. When this happens the CHP turns to MAIT (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) to look at the factors involved and arrive at a conclusion. The MAIT Team appears to have found sufficient evidence to make an arrest and bring forth charges with potentially life changing consequences for the defendant. Whenever there are questions of fault or causation in an accident the investigation is extremely important. We often hire former MAIT investigators to assist in finding the cause of serious. Crashes like this, especially where fatalities happen, are an example of what distracted driving causes and the trail of damage it leaves behind.
